Okay today has been one of the worst days EVER, last night/evening windows 7 was telling me it was killing all systems using the beta in 7 days and that I should backup all my data and re-install windows.

So I tried to install a new version of windows but the boot order was right and it was not booting from disk so I had my neighbor who is a geek like me burn me off a copy of xp however it was some shitty modified version of xp with 900 problems and 1 good thing about it.

I then attempted to remove that and install the real xp and then bluescreen of death hit me, tried booting normally, bluescreen of death. At this point I had to go to college so I went to college came home and the problem was still there so I removed all my hard drives except my main one where windows was installed and tried again.

Nothing changed so I formatted my other drive that contains documents and files that I have gathered over the years from 2004 – current. Still isn’t working so I get my neighbor to give me a DVD-R disk so I could burn windows xp x64-bit onto it and that works fine and installs great, I re-connect my hard drives after formatting my old files and losing over 600 movies.

Then I accidentally formatted my other drive containing all my downloads and shit I’ve collected over a long period of time so now I’m back to square one and it sucks, FML.

Anyway I’m thinking about renting a 3 bedroom house with 2 of my friends, not sure if I am going to do it yet. Either way it wont be until I’m over 18 anyway then I can party all night with no complaints from the mother.

What is it with girls these days, they all have laptops that are on 9 hours a day that get chucked around and then they wonder why it’s slow and has so many problems. Obviously laptops will never be better than desktops, laptops may be easy to move around but if your a girl using a laptop at home you don’t need to be able to move around.

And I mean come on girls, if you are going to use a laptop 9 hours a day expect it to be slow and shitty. For that 900 GBP laptop you could have got one of the fastest desktops on the market that never overheat and never get slow.

because I’m a web designer/developer and gamer and I have an Intel i7 Quad Core Processor with 6GB of ram and it is very difficult to slow my pc down to the point of freezing, I think I managed to do it once and that was running firefox with 20+ tabs, msn, 2 x aim, virtual servers, anti virus, and 3 copy’s of wow in game.

Think about it girls, stop trying to be cool kids with your laptops and just get a desktop that is fast and reliable, oh your new desktop should have a webcam too *wink wink*.

Okay so a few years ago a group of strangers walked into a big shopping form and walked out with access to the firms entire corporate network, you may be asking yourself how did they do it. They did it by obtaining small amounts of information bit by bit from a number of different employees in that firm.

First they did research about the company for two days before even attempting to set foot on the premises. For example they learned the key employees names by calling HR. Next they pretended to lose their key to the front door, and a man let them in, then they ” lost ” their identity badges when entering the third floor secured area, smiled and a friendly employee opened the door for them.

The strangers knew the CFO was out of town so they were able to enter his office and obtain financial data from his unlocked computer, they dug through the corporate trash finding all kinds of useful documents. They asked a janitor for a garbage pail in which to place their contents and carried all of this data out of the building in their hands. The strangers studied the CFO’s voice so they were able to phone pretending to be the CFO in a rush, desperately in need of his network password. From there they used regular hacking techniques to gain access into the system.

In this case the strangers were network consultants performing a security audit for the CFO without any of the employees knowledge. They were never given any privileged information from the CFO but were able to obtain all the access they wanted through social engineering.

Most definitions of social engineering include; The art of getting people to comply with your wishes; A hacker that uses psychlogical tricks on legitimate users of a computer system in order to gain access to the computer system. Now these are for the most part true however in reality social engineering can be any and all of these things depending upon where you sit.

The one thing that everyone seems to agree upon is that social engineering is generally a hackers clever manipulation of the natural human tendency to trust. The hackers goal is to obtain information that will allow him or here to gain unauthorized access to a valued system and the information that resides on that system.

The most common type of social engineering attacks are performed on the phone, a hacker will call up and imitate someone in a position of authority or relevance and gradually pull information out of the user. Help desks are particularly prone to this type of attack because hackers are able to pretend they are calling from inside the corporation by spoofing their number as one that is used inside the corporation.

Help desks are particularly vulnerable because they are in place specifically to help, a fact that may be exploited by people who are trying to gain illicit information. Help desk employees are trained to be friendly and give out information, so this is a gold mine for social engineering. Most help desk employees are minimally educated in the area of security and get paid peanuts, so they tend to just answer questions and go on to the next phone call. This can create a huge security hole.

A final, more advanced method of gaining illicit information is known as “reverse social engineering”. This is when the hacker creates a persona that appears to be in a position of authority so that employees will ask him for information, rather than the other way around. If researched, planned and executed well, reverse social engineering attacks may offer the hacker an even better chance of obtaining valuable data from the employees; however, this requires a great deal of preparation, research, and pre-hacking to pull off.

Why is it whenever someone finds out you are capable of turning their computer and online world upside down they immediately make the assumption that you are a bad person and that you are going to do it to them.

Every single person I’ve ever spoken to online, when I’ve told them a computer security enthusiast also known as a hacker the first thing they say is don’t hack me. And then they make the assumption that I’m a bad person.

Perhaps they don’t realise that it is because of people like me the world has light bulbs, computers, clothes, anything man has ever created was because he or she had that natural curiosity to not look at something and say oh well that’s it then, it’s the curiosity to want to push something that next step further and find out how and why it works.

Don’t you ever wonder how a television projects the image you you want to view, or wonder how your computer does what it does. If you don’t then that is why you aren’t a hacker. Those select few of us who do have that curiosity find a way to learn to hack, if you have to ask someone how to then your not hacker material in my opinion.

Anyway leave your thoughts on hackers in a comment, don’t worry no matter what you say I wont magically blow up your computer with some bad ass exploit.

No socks 5 authentication with Firefox, Opera, Internet Explorer, Chrome, What the hell kinda of crap is that. Maybe I want to surf the web without having to create a socks 5 adapter on windows and use additional software, All those major web browers do not support socks 5 proxy’s with authentication which is absolutely outrageous.

From my point of view this is a major thing because who the hell leaves socks 5 servers without any authentication for anyone on the internet to scan and use?

Obviously you can limit it to a single/several IP address’s but that doesn’t really help the situation if your on the move all the time and you want to use your socks 5 proxy.

Let’s hope in the near future one of the major web browsers will pull their shit together and update the browser with socks 5 with authentication.
